It's Foreign on This Side

This is for my friend, Olivia. She wrote a fabulous story that I just HAD to illustrate for her. So I drew her character's, Mason and Dani, at the lunch table. Aren't they cute together? I love them. Though Mason didn't turn out very well. His mouth is all messed up and his arm is weird. Lucky for me, I used ink... Permanent ink. :(

I really like the color scheme I used. Just brown and white, on tan paper. Whenever I color my stuff, I always look at it and wish I had made something this color, or that color. But only using two pencils cured me of this. I will be trying it again...

Oh, and I did some cool, sort of Brett Helquist-style, detailing on Dani's shirt. I did it in white, so the dumb webcam photo didn't really pick it up. In fact, it didn't really pick up any of the white, minus Mason's stripe. I think the whole background disappeared...
Just trust me, it's there.

So here you are, Olivia! I was going to say "Hope you like it!" but I already know you'll love it, 'cause you're awesome that way. :)

  1. That looks really good Nina! I like the color scheme too! I think it is perfect for the picture!

I wish I could draw... I mean draw well. 'Cause I can draw but it looks like *FLUSH* if you know what I mean.

  2. Thanks! It looks so much better in real life. You can't really see anything in that picture...

Haha, it's okay. Drawing can be a blessing and a curse sometimes. You should develope a more-friendly talent. Like riding a scooter, or something...

  3. HAHA! I have already mastered the art of scooter riding! But it's not all that fun. Riding a scooter is very bumpy and a scooter does not get you where you need to go as fast as a bike does.

  4. I think riding a scooter is tons of fun. But you're right, a bike is faster and smoother. But you can just hop off a scooter whenever you want! It takes a long time to get off a bike, and it isn't as small.

But you should still develope a nice talent. How about inventing things? Or reading? Or cooking? Or biting things?

  5. True scooters are smaller. But you can't do tricks on them! Like wheelies and riding it without hands! (not that I know how to do tricks on my bike, I just like the option.) :)

I think I could be good at biting things! But I would much rather do something a little more hygenic. What do you think I should learn how to do? Besides the things you listed before.

  6. Everything I listed was totally copied out of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Each one of the main chacters has a special skill that helps them get out of any- and every- situation. And the baby is good at biting stuff. It's pretty funny. She once climbed an elavator shaft with her two front teeth in order to escape a kidnapping.

But you're right, it's not very hygenic. :P
Hmmm, what is your favorite school subject? How do you spend your free time? I could make some suggestions based on those things, if you tell me! Are you a perfectionist or a "good enough" kind of person?

  9. I so caught the Series of Unfortunate Events skills you were talking about!

I want to try and improve my writing abilities. I like writing and I'm pretty good at it if I say so myself, it's just the spelling... maybe I'll just work on that for a while.

  10. Okay, okay. I obviously didn't know if you did. :P

Then do that! I love reading my friend's stories! (Obviously, since I just drew Dani and Mason...)

  12. "that picture"? You mean the one of Bessie? I told you I'd make you that a million years ago. Since then, I've made you a really attractive Peeta, and a LIFE-SIZE ZUKO.

How much do you want from me?!? ;)
